TITLE:                             GROUNDS WORKER

 

QUALIFICATIONS:   1.  Knowledge of gardening and grounds maintenance practices. 

2.  Ability to organize and delegate assignments.

                             3.  Follow oral and written instructions

  1. Perform heavy lifting and physical labor.
  2. Skill to operate motorized vehicles, hand and power tools and related equipment.
  3. No formal education is required.  One year of experience in grounds maintenance or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
  4. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  5. Regular attendance is required.

SUPERVISES:                   Student or seasonal employees

 

Performance Responsibilities

  1. Serves as a lead worker by directing and inspecting the work of grounds keepers and participating in planned grounds maintenance activities such as mowing, watering, spraying, trimming, planting, cultivating, snow removal and clean-up operations.
  2. Responsible for the general care and maintenance of lawns, athletic fields, trees, flowers, shrubs and sidewalks and related equipment.
  3. Participates in planning, assigning and monitoring grounds maintenance.
  4. Trains new personnel in grounds maintenance.
  5. Supervises and participates in mowing, irrigating, fertilizing, aerating and weeding grounds, cutting and laying sod and landscaping.
  6. Supervises a grounds crew and participates in planting, cultivating, irrigating, trimming and spraying plant life.
  7. Removes ice, snow and debris from sidewalks, streets and grounds using hand tools and related vehicles and equipment.
  8. Loads, unloads and moves furniture, equipment, materials and supplies by operation automotive vehicles, tractors and forklifts.
  9. Maintains, installs and repairs sprinklers systems by digging holes, trenches and drainage ditches.
  10. Operates, maintains and repairs lawn mowers, power sweepers, tractors, various power and hand tools, and related equipment.
  11. Patches and grades parking lots, streets and sidewalks.
  12. Liens and maintains athletic fields, sets up equipment for special events, and cleans stadium and rest area restrooms.
  13. Maintains a detailed inventory of fungicides, pesticides and other hazardous wastes for eventual safe disposal.
  14. Inventories and orders supplies, pesticides, fertilizers, spray equipment and plant labels.
  15. Performs other work as required.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Twelve (12) Month.  Salary, work and benefits to be established by the Board of Education.

 

EVALUATION:                  Performance of this job is to be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of support services personnel.
