TITLE: Educational Interpreter/Tutor
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A current NAD or RID certificate;
- An assessment score of 3.5 or higher on the EIPA performance test obtained not more than five years prior to the date of initial registration; or
- A South Dakota interpreter certificate obtained within the previous year and the required contact hours pursuant to subdivision 46:31:02:04(2).
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Auditory Oral Skills
- Experience working with children in a school setting, preferred
- Ability to adapt information, language, and curriculum to individual learning style
- Ability to work as a collaborative team member
- Knowledge of behavior management, inclusion
- Creative, energetic, flexible, and patient
REPORTS TO: Supervising Teacher, Principal and Director of Special Services
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Use a variety of communication methods (ASL, voice, gestures, print) to facilitate communication between the student, peers, and staff
- As directed by case manager, provide support/tutoring to the student in academic, vocational skills and/or community settings as outlined in the Individual Education Plan (IEP)
- Provide ASL instruction to staff and peers
- Assists teachers/administration with duties that contribute to the enhancement of the school environment while not interfering with the primary duty of interpreting
- Other duties as assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Salary, benefits, and terms to be established by the Board of Education.
- Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board’s policy on evaluation of classified staff.
